    im new to learning how to adjust valve clearances, but shouldn't you actually measure the original shim to get the accurate measurements instead of just going based off what's printed on the shim itself?

    • @RodRidesWrenches
      @RodRidesWrenches 2 дня назад

      I think you need to rewatch the video. Measurements of the gap between the cam and the shim/bucket are taken before removing the cams/shims. These measurements alone don't help you get correct shims if you don't have a starting point which is the size of the shim currently on the valve. I have a bike Yamaha fz25 it's inlet range 0.05-0.10 exhaust range 0.08-0.13,can you advise the best clearance for power & efficiency?

    • @RodRidesWrenches
      @RodRidesWrenches 3 дня назад

      How much power are you expecting to get out of 250cc's? Don't mess with valve shimming keep to the factory specification, your bike should have An intake gap of between 0.05 and 0.10mm, the exhaust 0.08 to 0.13mm. There is not much room to play with here. Understand that the gap between the cam and valve will tighten over time so get shims that aim for a gap that in in the middle of these two factory specified measurements or leans toward the greater range of the allowable gap. More is discussed in this latest video ruclips.net/video/22g2GTdGTSA/видео.html

    When rotating the crankshaft for TDC, I've noticed that some shop manuals do not specify clockwise or counter clockwise. At this point what should you do?

    • @RodRidesWrenches
      @RodRidesWrenches 3 дня назад

      What is important is to rotate the engine in the direction it would be turning while running to keep proper tension on the chains and cams. This typically means counterclockwise from the left and clockwise from the right side. I discuss in more detail in this latest video. ruclips.net/video/22g2GTdGTSA/видео.html

  • @williamdouglas8040
    @williamdouglas8040 6 дней назад

    Very good video. But while you should round down for the max shim size (as you stated), you should round up for the min shim size. The min shim size would be 2.95 mm in your example. Rounding down would give you 2.9 mm which would result in 0.34 mm clearance which is out of spec. Rounding up gives you 0.29 mm clearance which is in spec.

I have just bought a 1991 VFR750 RC36, in white, white wheels & with the blue seat.. all original with 14k miles.. I love the sound of the gear driven cams. He had a ball riding fire road with it then he went wilder. . attempted at a clif ! ! ! very steep and high slope. . . He almost reached up but just almost. . . . he dropped it and it tumbled down the cliff for more than a minute it broke most all plastic parts, broke one handle bar one head cover IT was atrocious. . . He picked some tools, silicone and a portable welder , went back to the big honda, fixed all he could , then it fired right up, drove down and. . . . . turned around and charged straight up and made it. . . . loosing parts along the climb, , ,It was MAD, , and the destroyed Honda road back home on the road ! ! ! ! Theses big Hondas are INDESTRUCRABLE. . almost ETERNAL. . . as GODs. .

    Did my brakes the other week and did almost all of things shown in this video, as this is how I've been doing the. For years but bleeding and topping up the res for literally hours did absolutely nothing. Only when I replaced the cover and membrane inThe master cylinder did it begin to build pressure. Its all done now and it passed inspection (mot in the UK) but air seems to be in the system as the lever pulls back to the bar Initially, before pumping up back to pressure. Just wondering now if the master cylinder needs a refurb, as it's had new caliper seals an d braided hoses fitted

    • @vmax4steve524
      @vmax4steve524 11 дней назад

      I had the same problem with my vmax after fitting new braided hoses, brake pressure is fine but next day back to the bar, pump it up and get pressure again. Before ordering a new master cycliner rebuild kit check the bleed nipples as you might need new ones, mine were leaking a little fluid overnight, fitted new ones and all now OK. Don't open the bleed nipples too much when bleeding as this will allow air into the system, 1/4 turn is sufficient, also apply a little copper grease to the bleed nipple threads before installing new ones as this creates a barrier that air can't get past so easily. We live and learn don't we.

  • @freightcoordination1019

    Is it common for AGM batteries to overcharge? I have hard wired two separate RR and still get 16-17 volts at battery in idle. Both RR have passed diode testing, there is zero continuity, and even have about 3 separate and solid grounds set. And for some reason, still cannot get voltage under control. I took battery down where I bought it, and they said it was 100 percent charged. I have gone through 2 batteries in the span of 3-6 months. (swelled up)

    • @freightcoordination1019

    I have a more favorable opinion of it as a touring bike than you do. But I think it is largely due to what I think of as touring. (2007 R1200GS former owner looking for newer GS - I think). I had a full boat LT for years, and was hotly debating an RT or GS back in 07. The GS for my touring purposes checked more boxes. I want an "every road" tourer. I am not going off road, but I want to take that dirt/gravel road, really enjoy the twisty roads (I live in the mountains), and cruise easily along the highway. All while being able to pack a good bit of kit and take my lovely wife along with me. The GS for me just ticks all the boxes. I put a Russell Daylong saddle (heated), and a bestrest backrest on it for the wife and it was wonderful, meeting all my expectations. Side note - I never understood the dislike for the turn signals. I had ridden many other bikes with the traditional setup before the BMW and it was like a revelation how intuitive I found the BMW's setup. I guess I am just weird that way. But I loved your review as I sift through youtube reviews trying to determine my next bike - narrowed to Used GS (really high on my thought process) - Used Stelvio - or Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel
